2009 Alberta HR Conference

Edmonton, Alberta Canada
In Alberta's fast-paced work environment where the only constant is change, the theme for this year's conference is "Fueling Change." Change impacts every aspect of our lives—personally from a lifestyle perspective, professionally with our careers, and socially within the community, country and planet. Whether we simply cope with change or truly embrace it reveals a great deal about our ability to take strategic advantage of unforeseen opportunities.
The 2009 Alberta HR Conference will explore different aspects of change to help you better capitalize on the remarkable opportunities that change can present.
·         Think of commonplace issues that were given very little thought as little as 20 years ago: privacy, identity theft, the environment, even some aspects of workplace health and safety. How can we incorporate these and other emerging issues into our thought process to benefit our organizations?
·         What about changing vernacular: recruitment has become "talent acquisition;" new employee orientation is becoming known as "onboarding." Are we keeping up with the new lingo to effectively communicate with both the new generation of workers as well as soon-to-be-retiring baby boomers?
·         Communicating with stakeholders has evolved significantly over the past few years with new technology and social media: blogging, YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter. How many of us have fully embraced these new and powerful tools?
·         While it seems as though we have never been busier, can we truly say we are focusing on what's important? Or are we just dealing with issues that are urgent, but not necessarily helping to achieve our goals?
