Seek career, not job, students told

VISAKHAPATNAM: Students, on completing education, should not merely search for a job, but seek a career that really defines them, founder-chairman and CEO of Kenexa Rudy Karsan said here on Tuesday.

Interacting with students of local colleges at a ‘Human Capital Management Space' meet at Kenexa office in Rushikonda near here, he said that everyone today was confronted with the difficult decision of choosing a career for himself or herself. “Only when one really wants and knows a way of getting it can one make the right choice of career,” he felt.

“There is no checklist for companies to hire you. You should ask yourself – how am I going to bring value to the organisation, how can I be the most candid and show who I am and not ask a lot of questions on what you can do but what I can do for you,” he explained.

Mr. Karsan said his company was providing HR solutions to several leading companies in the world. Kenexa's Indian operations were limited.

It has a small centre in Hyderabad where 50 persons work and a much bigger one in Rushikonda where some 350 are employed.

“We have operations in 20 countries and employ roughly 2,000 persons. It is our aim to find the right man or woman for the right job,” he said.

Subscriber base

Replying to a question, he said that his company had come out of the global economic recession in a much better shape than most other companies as its strength was its brand value and its customers reposed faith in it.

“We have a strong subscriber base,” he said.

To another question about the success of Kenexa, he replied that whatever one did, one should do it cheaper, faster and better than the others. Then only one could make a mark in the market, he noted.

Director-Operations of Kenexa Raman Arumugam said the event was organised to give a platform for students to know about the job market and to provide them a glimpse of the corporate world.

He said the event was supported by the CII and the Visakhapatnam Information Technology Association (VITA).
