LONDON. (August 08 2007) MacIntyre, a national charity who provides care and support services for children and adults with learning difficulties, has enhanced their recruitment of support workers after working with Kenexa, the recruitment and retention specialist. Kenexa has helped the charity identify the key traits and behaviours that make an effective and high performing support worker.
MacIntyre, a £40million turnover not-for-profit organisation, provides care services to over 1,000 children and adults throughout England and Wales. The company employs more than 1,400 support workers and each year experiences a turnover rate of approximately 15%.
“A lot of people say that a certain person is a ‘natural’ or they are ‘born to do the job’ which is great if you can just recruit a ‘natural’, but in reality that’s not easy to do,” said Bill Mumford, MacIntyre’s Managing Director.
Kenexa carried out a job analysis and administered psychometric instruments to existing high performing support workers to help identify the key attributes needed for success in the role.
“We believe we now know the cluster of skills necessary for a good support worker and our challenge now is to go and find them,” said Mumford. “Fundamentally we’re an organisation who is judged on what we do so we need to continually enhance the quality of our services. Having all of our support workers at this high performing level will only enhance the quality of care our patients receive and from a business case it will help us reduce our levels of staff turnover.”
Dave Millner, Kenexa’s Director of Consultancy for Europe, commented, “This has been a really interesting project to work on. MacIntyre helps improve the lives of so many people and they are now in a position to recruit the very best support workers who will provide much valued care to their patients.”
